The Little Theatre Gateshead is celebrating the news that it has received £22,344 of funding from the SITA Trust that will allow a project to replace the current auditorium roof to go ahead.

The theatre has had problems with flooding recently particularly during heavy downpours and it was decided the current roof and guttering system was no longer adequate and should be replaced if possible.

The project will involve the professional removal and disposal of the current roof, which contains asbestos, and the construction of a new structure incorporating modern insulating and aesthetically pleasing materials. A gutter overflow system will also be created.

Little Theatre Manager Robbie Carruthers said: "Replacing the roof is essential for the theatre to continue. The SITA Trust funding secures the Little Theatre’s future."
